A radiant provenance from Vietnam, May Chang is often used in combination with other oils to counteract rheumatism and/or joint inflammation. Also known by its Latin name of Litsea cubeba, it is a brilliant source of citral – a mixture of the twin monoterpene aldehydes or isomers, neral and geranial, that share sedative and spasmolytic effects. May Chang has a distinct position in Chinese Medical Aromatherapy and is a lively and refreshing addition in blends to ‘tonify the spleen and kidney yang, release wind-cold or to invigorate blood in the lower abdomen’.
